Brookbay: A Display Font with Quiet Confidence
Designer Notes You’ll Actually Use
- Always test Brookbay in pure black on pure white first—no gradients or overlays. Its subtlety reveals itself best in simplicity.
- Check readability at actual usage sizes: 36pt for posters, 24pt for email headers, 18pt for print flyers. If letters blur or counters close up, step back.
- Mock it up early—not on screen, but on real substrates: uncoated paper, kraft label stock, fabric swatches. Texture changes how serifs land.
- Compare uppercase vs. lowercase settings side-by-side. Brookbay’s lowercase has more personality—use that to your advantage in logotype variations.
- Review letter spacing manually. Default tracking often needs slight tightening for headlines, slight loosening for all-caps settings.
- Test font pairing intentionally: beside a sturdy serif (e.g., Merriweather) for editorial depth; a clean sans (e.g., Inter) for modern balance; a delicate script (e.g., Bickham Script) for contrast—never clutter.
- Confirm commercial licensing before client work. As a premium font, Brookbay requires proper licensing for web embedding, app integration, or resale of design assets—including Canva templates or printable design bundles.
